Five to get PPA’s Professional Certificate via UEL
Five graduates of the University of East London (UEL) will receive their Professional Publishers Association (PPA) Professional Certificate in Journalism next week.
This is the first time the Professional Certificate has been run through a University. I ran it in parallel with a practical module they have to do in their final year.
The results are strong ones: three distinctions, a merit and one pass.
They are high because the better students decided to take the certificate. They can now add this to their CV along with their degree as they fight for a place in the tough jobs market.
We had hoped that more would do it but pressure on finances and the weight of work in their final year meant some pulled out.
But if you had told me this time last year that five would have completed it by now, I would have been delighted.
We hope to run the scheme between the PPA and UEL next year, further establishing the worth of the Professional Certificate.
